The mTOR pathway plays a significant role in the growth of gastrointestinal (GI) cancers, including esophageal, gastric, pancreatic, and colon cancers,30, 31 and fluoropyrimidines form the backbone of many chemotherapy regimens for patients with GI cancers, making the combination of an mTOR inhibitor with 5‐FU a natural choice for combination therapy trials.
