In Chinese populations, the two common gene variants, ALDH2‐rs671 and ADH1B‐rs1229984, which jointly predict large absolute differences in alcohol intake, offer unique opportunities for MR studies to reliably assess the causal associations between alcohol consumption and various site‐specific cancers and/or other diseases, as has been shown for stroke, demonstrating that the apparent protective associations for moderate drinking were largely not causal.26 This evidence concerns the gene ADH1B and stroke disorder.
