Consistent with these observations, crocin was shown to decrease the protein levels of the NF-κB p65 subunit in the hippocampus of lipopolysaccharide-treated mice [36] and reduce the expression of NF-κB and consequently inhibit the downstream inflammatory cascade manifested by decreasing the expression of COX2 and levels of TNFα and IL-1β in thioacetamide-induced liver fibrosis in mice [37].
