Similarly, cytokine production measured in the γδ T-cell population indicated a trend for greater IL-17 production in PBMCs isolated from rhesus macaques, although low frequencies of IFN-γ and IL-17 producing γδ T-cells were also detected in cynomolgus macaques euthanised at the early post-infection time point indicating that unconventional T-cell populations play a role in the early immune response to SARS-CoV-2 infection (Fig. 9l).
