Interestingly, individual BCAA and BCKA did not associate with the diabetes remission phenotype, suggesting that despite the fact that these metabolites are associated cross-sectionally with obesity, insulin resistance and diabetes, and have been shown to predict change in insulin resistance with behavioral and bariatric weight loss interventions, they are less useful for predicting the clinical phenotype of diabetes remission. The gene discussed is ARID4B; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
