NAFLD is a multifactorial disease whose genes play an essential role in the susceptibility of individuals, and according to Genome-wide association studies (GWAS), the role of several genes to increase the risk of NAFLD in certain populations have been shown, of which PNPLA3 and TM6SF2 gene polymorphisms have a strong association with NAFLD [21]. This evidence concerns the gene TM6SF2 and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
