ARHGAP18 and atherosclerosis: Lay et al. (2019) reported that the expression of ARHGAP18 increased in areas where plaques formed and progressed. This finding is in keeping with our conclusion. Areas with turbulence and low shear force, such as carotid artery bifurcation, are high-risk areas for arterial plaque formation. In in vitro experiments, the expression of ARHGAP18 increased in areas with low wall shear stress and turbulence, which are risk factors for atherosclerosis.
