The association of inefficient Candida clearance and decreased ROS levels in neutrophils of CD169-DTR kidneys prompted us to investigate the expression level of IFNγ in infected WT and CD169-DTR kidneys at day 6 p.i. This cytokine has been known to be protective against invasive candidiasis by potentiating neutrophils’ candidacidal ability (Diamond et al, 1991; Kullberg et al, 1993; Stevenhagen & van Furth, 1993; Nader-Djalal & Zadeii, 1998). The gene discussed is IFNG; the disease is Candidiasis, Invasive.
