These findings are in accordance with earlier studies, showing that both mRNA and protein levels of PLIN 2 increase with hepatic accumulation of TG (Motomura et al., 2006; Pawella et al., 2014; Straub et al., 2008), whereas inactivation of the perilipin 2 gene lowered hepatic steatosis (Chang et al., 2006; Greenberg et al., 2011). Here, PLIN2 is linked to fatty liver disease.
