Symptoms of amiodarone neurotoxicity include in addition to peripheral neurotoxicity, central symptoms that could be explained by cholinergic dysfunction aspects including encephalopathies and cognitive impairment bearing resemblance to neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease where loss of cholinergic neurons and a decrease in ChAT enzyme activity occur in cholinergic areas of the diseased brains (Pappas et al. 2000). Here, CHAT is linked to Alzheimer disease.
