In the inpatients with different courses of diabetes, the serum I-FABP level was positively associated with the duration of hyperglycemia and glycemic variability but negatively associated with islet beta-cell function; moreover, the serum I-FABP level was higher in patients with retinopathy than in those without retinopathy, suggesting that the IB dysfunction got worse with the progression of diabetes. This evidence concerns the gene FABP2 and Hyperglycemia.
