GFAP and Norrie disease: Immunoreactivity for glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) was increased in the cerebellum and spinal cord in advanced WNV-ND and showed hypertrophy of somata and processes of astrocytes and their neuron-centripetal migration and perineuronal topology, all consistent with reactive astrocytosis (response of CNS-intrinsic glial cells to damage and disease [Burda and Sofroniew, 2014], including flavivirus infections [Maximova and Pletnev, 2018]; Figure 6a).
