WAVE2 can compensate for WASp deficiency, as IL-2 administration bypasses WASp inactivity (either in WAS patients or in WASp deficient and inhibited NK cells) by activating WAVE2, thereby restoring actin polymerization at the NK cell IS and restoring NK cell cytotoxic activity (Orange et al., 2011). The gene discussed is WAS; the disease is Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome.
