Furthermore, as early as day 3 post-infection, the expression of the transcription factors controlling MPEC differentiation (Eomes, Tcf7, Id3, Bcl6, Bach2, and Zeb1) is increased in absence of NR4A3 while the transcription of transcription factors involved in SLEC differentiation is reduced (Tbx21, Prdm1, Id2, Rbpj, and Zeb2), which explains why more MPECs and memory T cells are generated without NR4A3 (89).
