Off-target effects can relate to a number of known toxic, non-immunological and immunological mechanisms and can be subclassified in 1) dose dependent interactions with off-target receptors and pharmacological interactions such as non-IgE mediated mast cell activation or cellular toxicity and 2) drug allergy with immunological memory of variable duration such as delayed T-cell mediated reactions or IgE-mediated reactions (White et al., 2015).
