Murine models of fungal persistence using agar beads containing A. fumigatus conidia successfully recapitulated long-term (21 to 28 days) colonization of fungal hyphae in the lung (11, 12); however, mice in this specific agar bead model do not develop the strong IgE/Th2 response observed in ABPA patients. This evidence concerns the gene IGHE and allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis.
