With modern science, it was found that berberine not only possesses antibiotic and anti-inflammatory properties [126, 127], but also exhibits beneficial effects for inflammatory bowel diseases, and modulates the activities of ERK, p38 MARK, and JNK to suppress T17 and T1 T cell differentiation suggesting the potentials to becoming a therapeutic agent to treat type 1 diabetes mellitus [128].
