Based on these considerations, we aimed to investigate the prospective association of selected TEs [Mn, iron (Fe), Cu, Zn, iodine (I), Se] and functional TE markers [Selenoprotein P (SELENOP) and Free Zinc (Free Zn)], as well as their interdependence, with incident T2D, CVD [myocardial infarction (MI) and stroke] and colorectal cancer (CRC) using data from the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC)-Potsdam cohort. Here, SELENOP is linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus.
