ALB and diabetes mellitus: Although no previous CIPN studies displayed this relationship, patients with diabetes and with high albumin have been shown to be at higher risk for developing diabetic-neuropathy, likely due to oxidative stress and inflammation.45 Conversely, previous studies of oxaliplatin-treated patients found lower albumin associated with higher CIPN severity,14,34,35 likely representing impaired nutritional status and inadequate protein intake.
