The Italian Titration Approach Study (ITAS) has shown that, with the assistance of a specialist diabetes nurse, people with T2DM who are insulin naïve and have poor glycaemic control can initiate and self-titrate their insulin glargine 300 U/mL (Gla-300) dose with comparable HbA1c reductions and comparably low risk of hypoglycaemia versus physician-managed dose titration, in the absence of sulphonylureas (SU)/glinides [5].
