SARS-CoV-2 infection of Calu-3 cells, as expected from similar results for SARS-CoV infections (Yoshikawa et al., 2010), led to induction of a range of genes known to respond to viral infections, such as IFIT2, OAS2, or IFNB1 (Figure 2A) (Schoggins, 2019). The gene discussed is IFIT2; the disease is severe acute respiratory syndrome.
