In ALS mouse models, inhibition of p38 is able to rescue axonal retrograde trafficking (Gibbs et al., 2018), and p38b is specifically shown to regulate synaptic morphology in drosophila, though in response to stress both p38a and p38b are show to act redundantly in Drosophila, mammals, and yeast (Adachi-Yamada et al., 1999; Klinedinst et al., 2013). The gene discussed is MAPK11; the disease is amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
