GFAP and cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis: In normal CTX, protoplasmic astrocytes were seen in close apposition to homogeneously built vessels (Fig. 5a, c and e) whereas GBM cases showed gemistocytic glioma cells coopting the external walls of disrupted vessels (Fig. 5b, d and e) where anomalous, not easily discernible GFAP-expressing astrocytic-like structures were recognized.
