Yao et al. reported the development of one breast cancer (outside from the preserved nipple-areolar complex) in a group of 150 BRCA1/2 mutation carriers who underwent NSM for risk reduction (mean age at surgery: 41 years), at the NorthShore University HealthSystem (NSUHS) and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), at a median follow-up of 32.6 months [17]. The gene discussed is BRCA1; the disease is breast cancer.
