P2RY12 and Thrombocytopenia: The combination of clopidogrel and P2Y12 inhibits platelet aggregation while also shortening the lifespan of platelets.[12] During radiotherapy, radiation kills the sensitive megakaryocytes in the bone marrow, resulting in a decrease in mature megakaryocytes and peripheral platelets.[13] Therefore, continuous oral clopidogrel during radiotherapy will simultaneously inhibit platelet production and promote platelet death, which may lead to more severe thrombocytopenia.
