The fact that NR activation by triazoles, the MIE of the steatosis AOP, was observed in HepG2 cells which are barely able to metabolize most xenobiotic compounds (including a lack of substantial expression of CYP3A4) (Luckert et al. 2017), argues for a substantial role of the non-metabolized compounds in causing steatosis. The gene discussed is CYP3A4; the disease is steatosis.
