Numerous studies have shown minimal expression of Cyr61 in normal arteries but markedly increased expression at sites of atherosclerosis or vascular injury including carotid endarterectomy specimens6,7, aorta in older ApoE−/− mice6,9, and at sites of mechanical or drug-induced vascular injury8,10–13,31. The gene discussed is CCN1; the disease is atherosclerosis.
