Hepatocellular carcinoma shows a high degree of histological and molecular heterogeneity, including activation of PI3K/AKT and MAPK signaling pathways, TP53 mutations, overexpression of genes involved in the cell cycle and survival and chromosomal instability [12], as confirmed by whole-exome sequencing [13,14,15]. This evidence concerns the gene AKT1 and hepatocellular carcinoma.
