Although several authors have reported high concentrations of common oncomarkers, including carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) [8], cancer antigen 19.9 (Ca19.9) [9], 15.3 (Ca15.3) [10], 125 (Ca125) [8], and Krebs von den Lungen-6 (KL-6) [11,12,13,14], in IPF, little data is available on the prognostic role of all these markers, taken together, and their interactions, in IPF progression [9,15]. The gene discussed is CEACAM5; the disease is idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
