We focused upon the selective neuronal death of the hippocampal CA1 region after ischemia in gerbils because endophilin A1 is observed in the hippocampal CA1 region and specific knockout of endophilin A1 in the hippocampal CA1 region shows impairment of spatial and contextual fear memory with a similar pattern to that of whole brain knockout mice [31]. The gene discussed is SH3GL2; the disease is ischemia.
