Two major susceptibility genes for AMD that have been the focus of intense investigation, are the well-characterized CFH (1q31) that codes complement factor H, and poorly understood ARMS2 (10q26) (Hageman et al., 2005; Jakobsdottir et al., 2005; Klein et al., 2005; Scholl et al., 2005; Souied et al., 2005). Here, ARMS2 is linked to age-related macular degeneration.
