Recent work by Helfinger et al. [45], suggests that the redox tone established by Nox4 in mice has a role in promoting higher WT-TP53 mRNA and protein production and maintaining genomic stability by participating in the DNA damage response; interestingly, these studies showed Nox4-deficient mice are more susceptible to tumor formation in models of inflammation and chemical-induced carcinogenesis.
