On this background, we aimed to explore possible alterations in the expression of PD-1/ PD-L1 proteins on peripheral T and B lymphocytes, their eventual correlations with conventional markers of inflammation and the severity of alcoholic hepatitis (AH), as well as with the severity of liver dysfunction classified according to the criteria (Child-Turcotte-Pugh, Model of End-Stage Liver Disease, modified Maddrey’s discriminant function) widely used for this purpose in clinical settings for ALD patients. This evidence concerns the gene CD274 and Decreased liver function.
