Nitro fatty acids were also found in dermal fibroblasts upon virus infection and impaired interferon gamma signaling (65) by modulating the palmitoylation of the adaptor molecule stimulator of IFN genes (STING) which led to inhibition of interferon release, and the authors suggested the pharmacological potential of these lipids in diseases caused by abnormally high STING activity. Here, STING1 is linked to viral infectious disease.
