The fact that low doses of PACAP are sufficient to protect the brain from stroke, together with publications showing that PACAP-deficient mice exhibit increased lesions and enhanced neurological deficits (39, 67–69) suggests that any molecule, such as linagliptin, susceptible to increase endogenous PACAP levels could be of interest for the treatment of stroke.
