miR-199a-5p (downregulated in TRA versus SED) is modulated in the diabetic muscle, where its role in targeting Slc2a4/GLUT4 and Hk2/HK2 expression was confirmed [38], it is involved in myogenesis and dysregulated in Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) [39], its upregulation, along with that of miR-497-5p and of other four miRNAs is associated with mitochondrial dysfunction in DMD [40]. This evidence concerns the gene HK2 and Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
