FFAR2 and periodontitis: Having established that P. gingivalis cultured in vitro is capable of producing high levels of different SCFAs that can be recognized by FFAR2 to drive neutrophil chemotaxis, we next wanted to test whether this ligand-receptor interaction is specific for neutrophils and could help explain why neutrophils, out of all leukocytes, is so dominating in the GCF of periodontitis patients.
