Finally, given the association of ferroptosis with diverse diseases and conditions such as cancer, ischemia/reperfusion-induced organ damage, and degenerative diseases (Gao et al., 2015; Jiang et al., 2015; Stockwell et al., 2017; Zhang et al., 2018; Lee et al., 2020; Zheng and Conrad, 2020), future investigations should also be directed to understanding the role of POR in these other ferroptosis-associated diseases and the potential applications of POR inhibitors for treating diseases caused by excessive ferroptosis.
