In animal models of NLRP3-mediated diseases, such as Muckle–Wells syndrome, familial cold autoinflammatory syndrome, and urate crystal-induced peritonitis, caspase-1 activation and IL-1β secretion were significantly weakened by BHB-complexed nanolipogels and a ketogenic diet, and BHB inhibited K+ efflux and ASC aggregation (Youm et al. 2015). Here, NLRP3 is linked to peritonitis.
