Persons living with diagnosed HIV infection with a low CD4 cell count or not receiving HIV treatment are currently listed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as possibly at risk for severe illness from COVID-19.5 Little has been firmly established regarding the extent to which persons living with diagnosed HIV are acquiring COVID-19, the severity of COVID-19 illness experienced by persons living with diagnosed HIV, or how these distributions compare with persons without diagnosed HIV. This evidence concerns the gene CD4 and HIV infectious disease.
