Constitutive activation of signaling proteins is frequently demonstrated in AML, comprising major anti-apoptotic as well as growth-regulating signaling cascades such as the RAF/MEK/ERK (Mitogen-activated protein kinase; MAPK) pathway, the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/AKT/mTOR pathway, and the JAK/STAT pathway [3, 19–21]. The gene discussed is AKT1; the disease is acute myeloid leukemia.
