Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and concomitant heart failure require complex medication regimens; what’s more, glucose-lowering medications such as thiazolidinedions (5), dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors (6, 7) (saxagliptin and alogliptin) also can increase risk for heart failure hospitalization.
