HIF1A and acute kidney injury: Finally, it is worth to be emphasized that in kidneys, the precise regulation of HIF-1 activity is of special importance because they are organs of notably high oxygen demand and, in consequence, extremely susceptible to hypoxia and hypoxic damage which is reported to be responsible for the development of numerous renal pathologies [cf. Liu et al. (2017), Honda et al. (2019), Shu et al. (2019) for review], both in acute kidney injury and in CKD, including diabetic kidney disease.
