Moreover, 53BP1 foci, which represent sites of DSB (Schultz et al., 2000), were induced in the two colorectal cancer cell lines by 0.75 μM alkannin in a time-dependent manner (Figure 2C, Supplementary Figure S2C), suggesting that some of the DNA strand breaks detected by the alkaline comet assay were DSBs.
