Specifically, for diabetes, curcumin also has an effect on hepatic lipogenesis, blocking the activity of the sterol regulatory element-binding protein gene (SREBP1) [6,33] and simultaneously activating the enzymes carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1 (CPT1) and acyl-CoA cholesterol acyltransferase (ACAT) that are involved in lipid mobilization [6,33].
