A retrospective study [36] including 57 adult patients with severe heart failure (NYHA Class IIIB–IV) who underwent VAD implantation found that a lower galectin-3 concentration (<30 ng) at the time of VAD implantation was associated with better prognosis when compared to an elevated concentration (>30 ng/mL) 2 years after VAD implantation. The gene discussed is LGALS3; the disease is heart failure.
