A genome-wide association study (31,307 patients with peripheral artery disease and 211,753 controls) identified 19 peripheral artery disease loci; 11 of the 19 loci were associated with disease in three vascular beds (coronary, carotid, and lower extremity), including LDLR, LPL, and LPA. The strongest association with peripheral artery disease was found in gene LPA, with OR = 1.26 [17]. The gene discussed is LPL; the disease is peripheral arterial disease.
