Similar to what we found when considering day 2 post-infection viral titers alone, we found that a higher frequency of circulating CD44+ CD8 T cells at baseline correlated with protection from HID (Fig 4C), whereas a lower frequency of CCR5+ or CD25+ CD4 T cells correlated with protection from HID (Fig 4D and 4E), although only the last comparion was statistically significant after adjustment for multiple comparisons. This evidence concerns the gene CD44 and infection.
