While the data presented herein cannot formally demonstrate a causal relationship between the expression of IFN-induced gene products and the suppression of protein translational and cellular metabolism, it does suggests that a tipping point may exist, where the magnitude of the interferon-induced transcriptional response reaches a threshold, whereupon a broader range of cellular factors are significantly impacted causing a qualitative change in transcriptional response to infection. Here, IFNA1 is linked to infection.
