Defective CFTR functionality has been associated with failure to eradicate inhaled bacteria (Cohen and Prince, 2012); thus, it is conceivable that CFTR impairment by LasB could favor the establishment of chronic P. aeruginosa colonization not only in CF patients but also in patients with COPD and non-CF bronchiectasis. The gene discussed is CFTR; the disease is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
